red: is already assigned but you can still help!!
Old LDP ToDoPlease, if you want to help the LDP, first:
easy Subscribe to the wiki and fill in your personal wiki page with some words about you and what you want to do;
- and be assured of our thankfullness :-).
Basic tasks
easy browse the mirrors. Get a look at the mirrors to see if they are up to date. Look at the home page date. Try navigating them. Report any problem.
easy for good english writers browse the wiki. Look for typos or syntax errors, fix them. (English experts)
easy Create categories and give categories to wiki pages
- we need hands to review all LDP documents and:
easy (Action: SvetoslavChukov) contact the authors, ask them if they still maintain it and if they accept to put their docs on the wiki;
easy check the documents for correctness and eventual obsolescence;
not too hard port documents to the wiki, and subscribe as a maintainer for the wiki (people who will tag the document as "able to be mirrored", and control if edits are justified; begin with documents in Page_Status marked as allowed to by the author and with accepted free licence (see LdpWikiDefaultLicence).
Immediate Action Items
As of September 2008, the LDP is trying to enhance its workflow, basically integrating a wiki. (Details on this work in progress are here.)
easy (Action: jdd, SvetoslavChukov), need to contact as many people as possible, calling for help
Fedora user (Action: SusmitShannigrahi), rpm packaging for Fedora and others, once a reasonable number of docs are available with free licences.
admins Change the theme to have same theme on wiki and static
Moin expert We need some MoinMoin experts, maybe Python programmers, to
admin only (Action: jdd, but still help needed!) help us setting the wiki (creating groups with according rights, creating templates, setting headers and footers...);
script/docbook programmer (Action: SvetoslavChukov) make the Docbook gateway operational. We need to know exactly how MoinMoin deals with Docbook (what tags are known...). We need a way to translate Docbook to MoinMoin and to MoinMoin to Docbook in an automated way ;
script/docbook programmer We need also probably some script gurus to make this work, and maybe enhance the Docbook/Linuxdoc backends
Continuous workflow
Writing HOWTOs
The LDP's major effort is writing of HOWTOs. If you think you would like to write a certain HOWTO, please subscribe to the LDP general discussion list at discuss@en.tldp.org or e-mail feedback list, and offer to help. Then check to see if one already exists on your topic. If so, ask the author to offer help. If there is no HOWTO about it, you may want to create a new HOWTO. See the LDP Author Guide (formerly the HOWTO-HOWTO) and/or the HOWTO-INDEX for more details.
The "Guides" are large book-size LDP documents covering broad topics such as system administration.
