I, SvetoslavChukov, started this page with the hope that it will become a central point to log the activities of the LDP. This is necessary for the LDP community, as it would be a clear sign that the LDP is not dead and that there is something worthwhile going on in the project. So this page is almost like a diary of activity.

2008-08-17 We must keep in mind than the tld has two major parts: the static part (i.e. now the old site) where all the valid or classified docs must stay; and the dynamic one, mostly communication (lists...), CVS and wiki.

The static part is needed because of the very originality of the nature of TLDP: our documentation is purposely designed to be easily mirrored, printed or included in static supports such as CDs or DVDs (distributions). We have to maintain an internal set of documents explaining how dynamic documents are, from time to time, converted into static ones.

We have also to find a way to retain the author/document relationship. Wiki text has by its very nature no known author - or many authors - which comes to the same thing. So we have to find a way (and explain how it works) to have author-linked pages. We have also to find a way to allow editing of pages in the way any author wants it. Using discussion pages (ala mediawiki) is one solution; comments (ala wikini) is another; there are certainly many more (ala moinmoin :-).

We also have to find a '''wiki structure''' fitting our needs. We can't have randomly created pages without links. Even if google is often the best way to find a particular piece of info, a seriously structured wiki is a +.

We will also see that there are several kinds of tldp users. Authors, of course (do we have an author's index?), but also maintainers, proofreaders...

Reading the mailing lists recently shows that periodically we have new mirrors offered. It would be good if somebody among us could scan these mirrors, verify the out-of-date ones, and maintain a "mirror page" in the wiki.

We also have periodic inquiries about new HOWTOs and new version of old HOWTOs. We also have to answer these inquiries; maybe redirecting authors to the wiki.

2008-06-28. The idea to put the date in is probably not the best, but it is an important moment as at this point the wiki has active spam protection. Already one-and-a-half days have gone by and only 1 spam post has been detected by me. I do not know if anybody else has detected any other abuse, but I am pretty optimistic that it is the only one. Before this date the wiki was spammed, I'm not sure exactly how much, but about 10 times per day?

After the anti-spam solution, the process of importing the HOWTOs should start. I have marked the following documents to be the first ones to be imported. Why them? Because I had a look around at all the documentation at LDP and I must admit that much of it is not suitable for use at the present time, it is either too old or already exists in other projects. So why bother when other people have already created that piece of information? All that documentation would need a ton of work to import and we have to start somewhere and that should be with the most needed documents.

So, I have flagged the following ones:
